Vision
What I do: creating and connecting with movement and mind
As an entrepreneurial dance & movement professional, I create dance performances inspired by recognizable, daily live subjects related to (dis)connection, expressed through my eclectic movement language and within close collaboration. I initiate concepts and invite other artists to join and co-create. By bringing a creative and analytical mindset combined with a positive attitude, I enjoy working with new challenges, different perspectives, collaborations and ways to bring artistic theory and practice together. I express this working as an artistic director, choreographer, coach, teacher and trainer.
I believe in collaboration we develop in ways we cannot reach by ourselves and I wish to always keep learning and growing and help others do the same.
As an independent choreographer & dance artist I create dance and movement performances coming from starting points such as contrasts and similarities in daily life that draw my attention or quotes and images that inspire me. My main inspiration sources during the creative process are the people I work with (their unique sets of talents) and the collaborations I can make through dance. My approaches come from the physical perspective and I aim to connect with different types of dancers, performers, other (art)disciplines and sites. For example I have created for theatre settings, site-specific, festivals and dance film. I collaborated with inspiring and unique dancers, multimedia artists, a spoken word artist and many more.
Creating choreography goes beyond the dance steps and formations. I work on connecting the personal strengths of the dancers and collaborators with the (researched) concept of the work. This is guided into an expression form where every time it will be rehearsed or performed, it has to be re-born; taking the history of the process along and grow beyond, using the development of the team and the work itself to give the audience an experience that can only happen in that present moment. That keeps the performance, the product, always in process. Luckily, we never stop learning.
That is why I, as an artistic director (Choreolab Europe), choreographer, coach, teacher and trainer, help bringing awareness in the creative process and in (ways of) collaborating. Topics I address to are, among others: habits and patterns, structure and freedom, development of (starting) ideas and movement, the stages of the creative process and the roles and types of collaborators.
Feel free to contact me for a chat, discussion and/or collaboration!
